Calista,
My name is Vaughn Brown. I live in Vancouver and attend the Washington State School for the Blind. I am a certified in equine therapeutic and sports massage. I have been working with Senator Rasmussen and Senator Brandland for the last several months on SB 5403.
A friend of mine, John Bockmier, has been assisting me on working this bill. I spoke with him this afternoon. He is the person who called you today and talked with you about the bill, which will be having a hearing in your committee on 3/21/07 at 8:00 AM. I have been working on this bill for several months with Senator Rasmussen and Senator Brandland. We were successful in separating the requirements of human and animal massage.
The bill recently passed unanimously out of the senate, but I have valid concerns with the current suggested curriculum of 300 hours. My objection is so strong that I asked to have my name amended out of the bill on the senate floor. Before this took place, Senator Brandland had been very kind in honoring me by naming it the “Vaughn Brown Opportunity Act.”
I will attach some documents and forward on other materials for you and your committee staff to review. Please share my thoughts with the committee members as well.
Thanks very much,
Vaughn Brown
